In the match played in Chennai, England won the toss and elected to bat first, which was proved right by the brilliant batting of the captain Joe Root. The captain scored the amazing double century against India and lead the team to a total of 578 runs, including 87 by Dom Sibley and 82 by Ben Stokes.

In reply, India lost four wickets for 73 runs, but thanks to the half-centuries of Chattiswar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, and Washington Sundar, India managed to score 337 runs.
